Welcome to my website.

I made my first painting in January 2017. I bought all the necessary material one morning, and made my first (abstract) work in the spirit of the action painters. I gave it the title: And a fried egg.

More followed: lessons, workshops, and many hours in the studio. In addition to my early abstract works, I started and wanted to draw and paint more figuratively. The one does not exclude the other. I think they should live with each other. For me the process of painting always is the translation of reality into an ‘abstract’ form. I paint and study from life (live model), and also from photographs or from old masters.

In 2019, the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam selected my work "Paul in Purple, free after Rembrandt" for the exhibition Long Live Rembrandt (Lang Leve Rembrandt). It’s on top of the page with paintings on this website. I worked on it for two months. Layer by layer in oil paint. The painting was selected by a professional jury from nearly 8,500 entries.

Earlier in 2019, the jury of Dutch Portrait Award 2019 selected my entry "Hans" from nearly thirteen hundred portraits. What followed was a live presentation of the selected work to the jury. 107 artists were present there, with a total of 122 portrait works (2D and 3D). "Hans" just missed the final selection.
